Cleaning germ invested reptile tanks?

Like 4 months ago I had a leopard gecko who died. I think he might have had parasites or he was ill I'm not sure. But I want to get another leopard gecko. Is it safe to use the same tank? How should I clean it to get rid of ANY harmful germs. Or should I just buy a new tank?
